Mind Body Medicine
Dover Women's Health

More a philosophy rather than an actual technique, mind-body medicine takes into account the ability of one's own body to be involved in the healing process.

Mind-body techniques enhance self-awareness, decrease stress, and can improve coping skills. These techniques have been proven to be helpful with almost all types of chronic medical conditions. Courses in coping skills have been used with people interested in staying healthy as well as those dealing with work or family stress, menopause, divorce, fertility issues, cancer, and almost any chronic illness.

Both Dr. Segil and Dr. DeYoung have received advanced Mind-Body training.

Dr. Segil has studied various modalities since his entrance into medical school. Most recently he has completed Basic and Advanced training in "The Spirit of Self Regulation" through the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC. This Center is run by Dr. James Gordon, one of the country's leading physicians on the role and use of these techniques in everyday medical practice.

Dr. Segil has taught several courses locally on Coping Skills for healthy living and is an active member of the Integrative Therapies committee at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Courses are offered throughout the year either in our office or through the hospital. Dr. DeYoung has taught several classes within the community on reducing personal stress levels. Occasionally special courses are offered on fertility, chronic pelvic pain or menopause.
